My engagement

To engage in solidarity, we can be “voluntary”. What does this status mean? Does a volunteer receive a salary? How to become a volunteer? In Africa or abroad?
Volunteering is an act of exchange, a commitment between a host organization and a volunteer. Volunteer status is distinguished from both volunteer and employee.

Its characteristics are as follows:

The volunteer undertakes formally, by contract, for a limited period, for a mission of general interest;
The volunteer, in exchange for this commitment, receives a living allowance that is not comparable to a salary;
Volunteering does not fall under the Labor Code, except for international solidarity leave
Volunteer status has increased significantly in recent years, whether in Africa or internationally. The diversity of forms of volunteering, however, remains complex and sometimes unknown to the public, despite its interest, both professional and personal.

In order to promote volunteering and explain its specificities, FLC Studienkolleg informs and guides those wishing to commit to volunteer sending structures and host associations. The FLC Studienkolleg network is made up of 24 Volunteer Spaces around the world: they are places of information, promotion and accompaniment of youth volunteering.

Why volunteering?

High school students, students, young graduates, professionals in activity, retirees, volunteers share the same desire for selfless commitment in an action of development and international solidarity. Each year, more and more people who wish to leave wish to engage meaningfully, to respond to real needs while sharing a life experience with those who welcome them.
Volunteer structures, particularly in developing countries, are in need of exchange, openness to the world, sharing and transfer of skills. They expect an opportunity to meet for greater solidarity.

To each his volunteerism

Whether it is giving time, exchanging and discovering, contributing or sharing professional skills, all volunteers share common values.
